The Versatile PhD Portal

Versatile PhD (VPhD) is the largest online community dedicated to non-academic and non-faculty careers for PhD graduates in humanities, social sciences and STEM fields.

Before you can access Versatile PhD, you must authenticate with your University at Buffalo credentials. Once you've authenticated, you can then log in to the University at Buffalo's VPhD portal, or if it is your first time, create a VPhD member account.

VPhD’s Career Finder lets members access resources that detail experiences of humanities, social sciences and STEM PhD graduates who have embarked on non-academic career paths. As a UB graduate student, postdoctoral scholar, or faculty member you have full access to premium content on the VPhD website free of charge.

  • Resumes: Authentic resumes and cover letters that landed PhD graduates their first jobs away from the faculty track, with step-by-step analysis of the application and hiring process.
  • Bios: Inspiring first-person stories written by PhD graduates describing how their non-academic careers evolved over several years, including promotions and signature accomplishments.
  • Q&A: Detailed inside information on a wide range of specific PhD-friendly careers provided by PhD graduates in those careers, along with their answers to a wide range of member questions.
