UB’s Office of Science, Technology Transfer and Economic Outreach (STOR) has refreshed its signature mark to more accurately communicate its collaborative roles both within UB and the Western New York economy.

STOR serves as UB’s technology transfer, intellectual property and business incubator arms.

The signature mark is designed to complement other UB entities engaged in economic development, while also distinguishing STOR as a distinct entity. Other UB entities using similar signature marks include the New York State Center of Excellence in Materials Informatics (CMI), the New York State Center of Excellence in Bioinformatics and Life Sciences (CBLS), the Center for Computational Research (CCR) and the Office of Economic Development (OED).

STOR worked closely with external partners Gluckworks and White Bicycle to develop a signature mark to uniquely position STOR.

“Our refreshed signature mark conveys the fast, clean and modern aspects of our work,” says Robert J. Genco, vice provost and SUNY Distinguished Professor, who oversees STOR. “Our belief is that commercialization creates jobs, grows wealth and improves quality of life. Collaboration with both industry and other university departments is what makes that possible. The new signature coincides with the new initiatives and collaborations made possible by our designation as the WNY Innovation Hot Spot from New York State, which funds collaborative programs with other regional incubators.”

Since its inception in 2001, STOR has licensed more than 150 UB inventions — half of which evolved into startup companies — and mentored more than 100 other companies that now employ 3,300 people and generate $540 million in revenue, primarily in Western New York. In addition, business incubators run by STOR have supported more than 200 incubated startups, boasting a 70 percent survival rate and total employment of more than 1,000.

STOR’s new signature mark is being launched in a period of great excitement in Western New York and at UB. Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo’s Buffalo Billion and START-UP NY initiatives put UB — New York State’s most comprehensive public research university — at the forefront of regional economic development efforts, leveraging its capacity to generate job creation and economic growth, Genco says.
