New students took part in a popular annual tradition on Friday as part of Opening Weekend 2015: creating a human interlocking UB logo. The photo event is a featured part of Opening Weekend, which kicks off University Life & Services’ “Fall into UB” programming.

“Opening Weekend is all about welcoming our new students to UB,” said Dennis R. Black, vice president for University Life & Services. “They are forging friendships and relationships that will last a lifetime. Joining in on the human UB logo is a lot of fun, but it also symbolizes, for each student, joining together as part of the UB community.”

Approximately 2,300 students took part in creating the human logo, wearing UB blue-and-white T-shirts provided on site to participants.

The university has been hosting the human interlocking UB logo — which measures 128 x 90 feet — for 11 consecutive years. The tradition began in 2004.  To date, it has never been rained out.

The event is facilitated by Office of Student Life staff and many volunteers.

“Fall into UB” is a series of events that take place in the first six to eight weeks of the fall semester to help new and returning students get the academic year off to a great start while building college memories.
