COLUMBUS — UB Bulls fans remained hopeful that the men’s basketball team would squeeze out a victory over West Virginia in the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament on Friday. While they didn’t get the result they wanted, UB supporters were proud of how the team played.

“It was a great game. It was a great opportunity for us to play at this level,” said Sharon Sanford, a UB supporter who traveled from Buffalo to watch UB’s first-ever appearance in the Big Dance.

“They showed a lot of heart and represented our university well,” Sanford added. “I’m proud to be a Bull.”

Tim Butler, a 2007 UB graduate, traveled from Washington, D.C., Thursday night to watch the Bulls live.

He left Nationwide Arena without much of a voice, but with a whole lot of pride and high hopes.

“We came out, showed up and gave them a tough game,” he said. “At one point we were so loud all the West Virginia people were looking at us. We may have been half the size, but we brought twice the noise.”

Butler and fellow UB graduate Chris Boardway, who traveled with Butler Thursday night, were also quick to say they think this is the first in a long line of trips to the Big Dance for the Bulls.

“Next year should be even better,” Boardway said. “We have talent staying and more coming, so we’ll be back next year.”
