DNA to be center of conversation and jewelry at UB, Buffalo Museum of Science public workshop

BUFFALO, N.Y. – Who needs gold when you have DNA?

Western New Yorkers are invited to SciNight: Diving into Your DNA, an event hosted by the Buffalo Museum of Science and the University at Buffalo Community of Excellence in Genome, Environment and Microbiome, where guests can create a necklace made from their own DNA and learn from local scientists about DNA testing and the makeup of our genetic material.

The evening includes a discussion led by UB evolutionary anthropologist Omer Gokcumen, PhD. An assistant professor of biological sciences, Gokcumen studies how humans evolved and adapted — including how they differ from primates such as gorillas and chimpanzees — and the role of genetics in disease.

The event is scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 3, from 6:30—8 p.m. at the Buffalo Museum of Science, 1020 Humboldt Pkwy., Buffalo.

The workshop is open to guests aged 18 years and older. Tickets are $15, with Buffalo Museum of Science members receiving discounted admission. Registration is required at https://bit.ly/2xTVeLu.
