Free info session on technical assistance grant for companies

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Business leaders seeking to innovate and grow their companies are invited to learn about a grant program that utilizes the University at Buffalo’s technical expertise.

UB’s Center for Industrial Effectiveness (TCIE) will host a free informational session about the Strategic Partnership for Industrial Resurgence (SPIR) grant program. SPIR provides businesses in New York State of 500 employees or less with access to the resources of UB's eight School of Engineering and Applied Sciences departments.

The session is 8 to 10 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 2, at UB’s Baird Research Park, 1576 Sweet Home Road, Amherst. A continental breakfast will be served.

Made possible by the State University of New York, matching funds of up to $25,000 are available. Attendees will learn about the scope of work that may be funded, ranging from research and development projects to employing graduate and PhD students.  

Three engineering faculty members will also talk about their areas of specialty, which may be leveraged with SPIR:

  • Sabrina Casucci, teaching assistant professor of Industrial and Systems Engineering (ISE): facility layout, workflow design and operational improvement.
  • Lora Cavuoto, assistant professor of ISE: ergonomics, and occupational safety and health.
  • Hongyue Sun, assistant professor of ISE: data analytics for manufacturing process quality, reliability and efficiency improvements.
