BUFFALO, N.Y. – University at Buffalo students and their neighbors will get to know each other during UB Neighbors' Day Block Party and Safety Fair Sunday, Sept. 2, on the UB South Campus lawn near Hayes Hall.

The Block Party begins with a parade at 2:30 p.m. starting at the Winridge entrance to UB's South Campus, at the intersection of Parkridge and Winspear avenues. The "Run With the Bulls" parade, which features UB's Thunder of the East marching band and a parade of student athletes, will wind through the surrounding neighborhood and end at the lawn in front of Hayes.

The block party continues on the lawn with live music, free food and information tables from local businesses, police, campus and government agencies. The safety element of the party will include a simulated residence hall room fire at 5:30 p.m. to demonstrate how quickly fire can spread and how to guard against it.

"This is an event that tries to build community by bringing students and residents together in a relaxed, informal environment," says Daniel Ryan, UB's director of off-campus student services. "It's going to be a lot of fun."

The free event offers UB students and residents of the Heights neighborhood a chance to get to know one another and find out information about block clubs, community and civic groups, local businesses and university services.
