University at Buffalo Law School Professor Michael Halberstam and law student Patrick Fitzgerald will submit their legislative redistricting plan for Erie County at 10 a.m. today (May 6, 2011) at a press conference on the front steps of the Old Erie County Courthouse, 92 Franklin St., in downtown Buffalo.

The plan they will submit to the Erie County Legislature is the result of a class project done by Fitzpatrick in a law school course on redistricting taught by Halberstam. The UB Law School proposal was developed by an independent, nonpartisan group at the law school with close input from experts at the ACLU's national Voting Rights Project.

The submission of this plan follows testimony by Fitzpatrick before the Erie County Advisory Committee of Legislative Reapportionment and an article Fitzpatrick wrote that was published in The Buffalo News.

Halberstam and Fitzpatrick will be available for interviews and answer questions throughout the day. Call Halberstam at 646-285-6281 or Charles Anzalone in the UB Office of Communications at 716-645-4600.
