BUFFALO, N.Y. -- A team of four seniors in the University at Buffalo School of Management has won the fifth annual Becker Professional Education Case Competition.
The winning team, Bethany Doohaluk of Niagara Falls, Mark Edinger of Fayetteville, Daniel Eisenberg of Massapequa and Marcelino Hernandez of Buffalo, was chosen from eight teams representing 30 students who participated in the competition on Feb. 18 at the Alfiero Center on UB's North Campus.
Each student on the winning team was awarded a $1,500 tuition certificate for the full Becker CPA Review course, in addition to other prizes.
The competition, hosted by the UB Accounting Association and sponsored by Becker Professional Education, is intended to help undergraduate students apply their knowledge and skills in the analysis of real-world accounting and finance issues.
This year, the teams presented their research and recommendations for a case involving Extensible Business Reporting Language, a language for the electronic communication of business and financial data, to a hypothetical client.
The judges for the final presentations were: Ronald J. Huefner, SUNY Distinguished Teaching Professor Emeritus, UB School of Management Department of Accounting and Law; Stephen LoVullo, partner, Lumsden & McCormick LLP; Navdeep Parihar, associate, Goldman Sachs; and James Sabo, partner, Brock, Schechter & Polakoff LLP.
