BUFFALO, N.Y. -- The Center for the Arts, University at Buffalo, will present The Levon Helm Band on Sunday, March 6, at 7:30 p.m. in the Mainstage Theatre, located at the Center for the Arts, North Campus.

Legendary musician and rock icon Levon Helm dives deeply into his craft by incorporating gospel, blues and soul into his eclectic brand of Americana. Helm, who has played with the likes of Bob Dylan and The Band, has helped give the world classics such as "Up on Cripple Creek," "The Weight" and "The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down," among others.

In 2007, Helm released Dirt Farmer, his first solo studio album in 25 years. The critically acclaimed album awarded him a 2008 Grammy for Best Traditional Folk Album. That same year, Helm was also recognized by the Recording Academy with a lifetime achievement award as an original member of The Band and was given the "Artist of the Year" Award by the Americana Music Association. In 2009, Helm released Electric Dirt which won him his second consecutive Grammy in the inaugural category of Best Americana Album in 2010.

About Helm's performance, The New York Times has said, "His voice is vigorous and unbridled... the music struts through every earthly travail." They were also hailed by Rolling Stone as "2008's Best Jam Session." It is no wonder that The Levon Helm Band continues to play to sold out crowds at their weekly "Midnight Ramble" concerts at his home in Woodstock, N.Y. The intimacy of the shows performed at Levon's hearth offer a hospitality and warmth found in no other venue.

Though always an enthusiastic and passionate performer, today with sheer joy and gratitude, he effortlessly captivates his audience young and old, with a rhythmic power all his own. During a career that has spanned over five decades, Levon Helm has nurtured a tradition of professionalism with a deep respect for his craft and remains refreshingly genuine in a world that often compromises integrity.
