University Police received a call yesterday at 5:33 p.m. from a caller who reported that his vehicle was taken at gunpoint from the Sherman Lot on the South Campus. Within minutes, University Police recovered the victim's vehicle and a short time later made an arrest of the suspect, who was carrying an air pistol. Because the suspect had immediately left campus and was apprehended there was not a continuing threat to the campus community.

Members of the university community are urged to remember to stay alert to their surroundings, to always travel with other people and to report any unusual circumstances or suspicious persons and activities to the University Police as soon as possible. When possible, use the Anti-Rape Task Force Safety Escort program or other UB transportation services. Call 829-2584 for escort program information, or go to the program's Web site at http://healtheducation.buffalo.edu.

Any unusual circumstances or suspicious persons should be reported to the University Police as soon as possible at 645-2227 or stu-upolice@buffalo.edu. For emergencies dial 645-2222 or use any emergency blue light phone located on campus. Anonymous tips on campus crimes can be reported at http://www.upolice.buffalo.edu.
