BUFFALO, N.Y. -- The University at Buffalo Law School will host a State Senate hearing on the Interest On Lawyer Account Fund (IOLA) and the viability of future legal services from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Dec. 16. State Sens. Ruth Hassell-Thompson and John L. Sampson will preside.
The IOLA Fund, in existence since 1983, provides financial support to civil legal service organizations. The money pays lawyer fees to indigent people facing foreclosure actions, unemployment hearings, landlord-tenant eviction proceedings, fair hearings and other legal actions.
