BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Kim Dai of New York City, a freshman architecture student at the University at Buffalo, has received a scholarship from the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) to join more that 25,000 sustainable design and construction professionals at the USGBC International Conference and Expo in Phoenix Nov. 11-13.

Dai, a graduate of Architecture, Construction and Engineering (ACE) Mentor Program of Greater New York City, is one of five U.S. ACE graduates to receive the scholarship, which will cover winners' conference registration fees and travel expenses.

ACE is one of several non-profit groups invited by the USGBC to submit nominations for the scholarship program, which was begun this year to engage populations underrepresented in the green building industry. Only individuals within strictly defined income limitations were eligible to receive scholarships.

USGBC will convene a special press conference for the ACE graduates and scholarship winners from other organizations on Nov 12 from 12-12:30 p.m. in room 126B in the North Building of the Phoenix Convention Center.

Following the conference, the ACE graduates will prepare a report, in a format of their choosing, explaining what they learned, and establish a relationship with the USGBC chapter in their areas. As a continuing scholarship benefit, USGBC will provide the emerging green builders free access to selected on-line courses.

Upon her return from Greenbuild, Dai, along with the other four ACE grads who attend the conference, will communicate her experience and new knowledge to some of the ACE mentor/student teams in her home affiliate.
