From rain barrels and locally roasted coffee to energy-efficient windows and cars you share instead of own, a broad range of environmentally friendly products for consumers will be on display at the University at Buffalo's "A Greener Shade of Blue and You Day," to be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. today (Tuesday, Oct. 20, 2009) in the atrium of the Center for the Arts on the UB North (Amherst) Campus.

Information on environmentally savvy products, technologies and services will be provided at the event being held for UB employees and students. It is sponsored by UB's Professional Staff Senate, UB Green, Campus Dining and Shops and the Faculty Senate.

More than 30 local businesses and nonprofit organizations are participating to help members of the UB community learn how to "green" their homes and lives with environmentally responsible, energy-efficient products and lifestyle choices.

Presentations include "Protecting our Local Waterways" by Kerri Bentkowski of Buffalo Niagara Riverkeeper at 11 a.m.; "Home Energy Solutions" by Cyd Cox of EcoLogic Home at noon; and "Monetary Incentives for Greening Your Home" by Lori Borowiak of NYSERDA.

Local farmers and food producers also will provide products to sample in the Special Event Field across from the UB Student Union.

There will be door prizes, a raffle and presentations.

Press arrangements: Ellen Goldbaum in the UB Office of University Communications at 645-4605, or Janiece Kiedrowski of the Professional Staff Senate onsite.
