BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Adam J. Korus, a University at Buffalo sophomore, has been selected to receive the Willie R. Evans UB Alumni Association Legacy scholarship for the 2009-10 academic year. Korus will receive the $2,500 award from the scholarship's namesake, Willie R. Evans, EdB '60, UBAA president Larry Zielinski, MBA '77 & BA '75, UB president John B. Simpson and representatives from the Office of Alumni Relations during a luncheon at noon on Oct. 9 in the Council Room in Capen Hall.

Korus is the son of Leslie and Paul Korus, BS '78, of West Hartford, Conn., and grandson of Lorraine Korus, BA '52, of Buffalo, N.Y. He is also the nephew of immediate past president of the UBAA, Marc A. Adler, MA '83, MBA '82 & BA '79, and his wife Patricia, MSW '83 & BA '81.

Established in 2007, the legacy scholarship assists currently enrolled UB students who are children or grandchildren of UB alumni who contribute to the growth and enrichment of the university through active membership and participation in the alumni association.

The scholarship is named in honor of Evans, a longtime UB volunteer, former president of the UBAA and donor. In addition, Evans was a member of the 1958 UB Bulls football team that turned down an invitation to appear in the Tangerine Bowl because Evans and another black teammate were not allowed to play alongside white players.

Applications for the scholarship may be found online at http://alumni.buffalo.edu/students.
