BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Graduate students in a planning studio at the University at Buffalo School of Architecture and Planning will share their recommendations for how to make the Town of Amherst more pedestrian friendly.

The students produced the plans at the request of the Amherst Town Supervisor. Their presentation will take place Monday, May 11 from 3-4:10 p.m., in the Town Council Chambers, Amherst Town Hall.

Proposals include an 80-mile walkway network, composed of trails and enhanced sidewalks, to be built over a five-year period.

Graduate students who developed the plans – Susan Barker, Susannah Barton, James Kistner, Eric Poniatowski, William Smith and Ziyan Wu -- worked under the supervision of Ernest Sternberg Ph.D., professor of urban and regional planning. They were assisted by undergraduate students in an environmental design class taught by Alex Bitterman, adjunct assistant professor, UB Department of Urban and Regional Planning and an assistant professor in the Department of Design, Rochester Institute of Technology.
