Dear Colleagues:

On behalf of President Simpson, who is away on university business overseas, I am writing to reach out to campus community members in the wake of last night's tragic plane crash here in Buffalo.

Our University at Buffalo community grieves for the victims of this terrible tragedy. Our thoughts and prayers are with their loved ones, and we join together with our surrounding communities in sharing our deepest sympathies and offering our support to all those affected.

Sadly, we know that members of our own university community have been touched personally by this great loss, and we are reaching out now to these campus community members and their families. Although we don't yet know the full extent of the losses from this tragedy, UB stands ready to help any campus community members who may have been impacted.

Students have counselors available on-campus 24 hours a day. Counseling Services is located in 120 Richmond Quad, (716) 645-2720, and counselors are available from 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. After hours, an on-call counselor can be reached by calling University Police at 645-2222 or 2222 from any campus phone.

Faculty, staff, and employee groups in need of support are encouraged to contact the University at Buffalo's Employee Assistance Program (EAP), a free information and referral service available to all UB employees, family members, and retirees that offers assistance and support for those impacted. The EAP Office is located at 156 Parker Hall on the South Campus, and immediate assistance is available by calling the 24-hour EAP Helpline at 645-4500 or the EAP Administrator at 645-5000, x1007. More information is available on the EAP website at http://eap.buffalo.edu/ .

Please share this information with anyone who may benefit from it, and please join me in extending our sympathy and support to all those impacted by this tragedy.

Sincerely,

David L. Dunn, M.D., Ph.D.
