6 UB Students Receive Chancellor's Scholar Athlete Award

BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Six students from the University at Buffalo have been named recipients of the 2007-08 Chancellor's Scholar Athlete Award for a combination of academic excellence and outstanding athletic achievement at the Division I level.

"The Scholar Athlete Award is one of the most selective and prestigious awards bestowed by SUNY," said Interim SUNY Chancellor John B. Clark. "It speaks volumes about the hard work, dedication and perseverance that our student athletes exhibit both in the classroom and in their particular sport throughout the year."

The University at Buffalo is a premier research-intensive public university, a flagship institution in the State University of New York system that is its largest and most comprehensive campus. UB's more than 28,000 students pursue their academic interests through more than 300 undergraduate, graduate and professional degree programs. Founded in 1846, the University at Buffalo is a member of the Association of American Universities.

Boulder, Colo.: Meili Carpenter, sophomore, women's swimming and diving

Derby, N.Y.: Mary Veith, junior, women's cross country

Foxboro, Mass.: Jeffrey Parker, senior, wrestling

Jakarta, Indonesia: Denise Harijanto, sophomore, women's tennis

Rush, N.Y.: Michael McDowell, sophomore, men's swimming and diving

Weston, Conn.: Jameson Richard, senior, football
