BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Lani Jendrowski of Akron, senior counselor for the Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) at the University at Buffalo, has received the 2006 Outstanding Service to the Professional Staff Senate (PSS) Award from the PSS, the governance group for members of the professional staff at UB.

The award honors the achievements of professional staff members whose actions go above and beyond the scope of their normal duties and recognizes outstanding contributions that benefit the university or community.

In her role as chair of the PSS' Professional Development Committee, Jendrowski and her committee members have developed and implemented more than 80 professional development events and opportunities for the PSS over the past 10 years, including full-day, off-campus conferences and numerous workshops.

In her position with the EOP, Jendrowski counsels students and coordinates the administrative functions of the program, whose mission is to identify, admit and offer academic, personal and social support to "talented, but disadvantaged" students. She provides academic, personal and financial aid counseling to students, serves as a student advocate among the academic departments and recruits students from area high schools.

She coordinates the EOP Summer Program, as well as implements such activities as the mentoring program, book-loan program, tutor/mentoring training, and individual, group and special-subject tutoring.

Jendrowski holds a bachelor's degree in business administration from Fredonia State College and a master's degree in education and provisional certification in school counseling from UB.

She is active in the Association for Tutoring Professions, the College Reading and Learning Association, the Association for Excellence and Equality in Education, and the National Council of Educational Opportunity Association.
