BUFFALO, N.Y. -- "Surviving in the Theatre" will be the topic of the opening lecture of "UB At Noon for Distinguished Alumni," the spring luncheon speaker series presented by the University at Buffalo Alumni Association.

The lecture, to be delivered by Stephen Henderson, associate professor in the Department of Theatre and Dance in the UB College of Arts Sciences, will be held at noon on April 15 in the Center for Tomorrow on the UB North (Amherst) Campus.

The series, in its ninth year, is designed for UB alumni and friends from the classes of the 1930s through the '60s.

Henderson, former chair of the Department of Theatre and Dance, teaches at UB in the fall and auditions for professional work in the spring and summer. He will conclude his third acting appearance on Broadway the week before his presentation. Among his accolades are OBIE and AUDELCO (Audience Development Committee for Excellence in Black Theatre) awards, as well as an NAACP Award for outstanding dramatic performance by a male.

The luncheon series will continue on May 5 with a lecture by Sherilyn Thomas, director of the UB Psychological Services Center, on "The Mind/Mood Connection: How What You Think Affects How You Feel."

Richard Salvi, director of the UB Center for Hearing and Deafness, will discuss "How We Hear and What Happens When We Don't" on June 4.

Both programs will be held at noon in the Center for the Arts.

The cost of the lecture program, which includes lunch, is $16 for the general public and $14 for UBAA members, who may bring one guest at the discounted fee.

The annual day trip will take place on June 24, with lunch and a cruise on the Erie Canal featuring a trip through the historic Lockport locks. Buses will leave for Lockport from the Center for Tomorrow parking lot at 10:30 a.m. and return at approximately 3 p.m. The cost will be $45, with a $5 discount for UBAA members.

The series also will feature a complimentary presentation, with lunch, by Independent Health on May 24. It is limited to the first 200 registrants.

Independent Health, along with Morgan Stanley and Canterbury Woods, are corporate sponsors of UB at Noon for Distinguished Alumni.

To register for any portion of the series, call the UB Office of Alumni Relations at 829-2608.

Reservations for each of the programs must be made at least five days before the presentation.
