Comedienne, former SNL cast member Ana Gasteyer to perform at UB

BUFFALO, N.Y. -- The University at Buffalo Center for the Arts will present a performance by Ana Gasteyer at 8 p.m. on Nov. 16 in the Mainstage Theatre in the Center for the Arts on the UB North (Amherst) Campus. The performance is sponsored by the undergraduate Student Association, WBFO-FM and WGRZ-TV.

Gasteyer will speak about the history of women in comedy. Her presentation will be a multi-media event featuring some clips of her "Saturday Night Live" characters and highlights of comedy performed by artists that have influenced her career.

Gasteyer is best known for her incomparable work on "Saturday Night Live." During her six-year stint, she has created some of the most famous SNL characters including middle-school music teacher Bobby Moughan-Culp, NPR radio host Margaret Jo and Lilith Fair poetess Cinder Calhoun, as well as spot-on impressions of Martha Stewart, Celine Dion and Hillary Rodham Clinton. She recently completed a successful run starring as Colombia on Broadway in "The Rocky Horror Picture Show."

Prior to joining SNL, Gasteyer honed her comedy skills at The Groundlings, a Los Angeles improv-sketch comedy group. She also appeared theatrically in the highest grossing run of Eve Ensler's "The Vagina Monologues." Gasteyer also has been seen in films that include in "What Women Want" with Mel Gibson, "Women on Top," "Dick" and, most recently, "What's the Worst Thing That Could Happen" opposite John Leguizamo and Martin Lawrence.

Tickets for Ana Gasteyer are $20 for the general public and $16 for UB students. Tickets are available from noon to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday in the Center Box Office and at all Ticketmaster locations, including Kaufmann's.
