Zodiaque Dance Company to Present "Wine, Women & Dance"

BUFFALO, N.Y. -- The Department of Theatre and Dance at the University at Buffalo will present the fall dance concert of Zodiaque Dance Company, titled "Wine, Women And Dance," Oct. 11-14 and 18-21 in the Drama Theatre located at the Center for the Arts on the UB North (Amherst) Campus. Performances will be begin at 8 p.m. weekdays and Saturdays and at 2 p.m. on Sundays.

In celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Pan American Exposition and the Women's Pavilion Pan Am 2001, the production will be a commemoration of seven Western New York women who have made a significant impact on dance as an art form by demonstrated by artistic excellence in performance, education and service, thereby enriching our Western New York cultural heritage, enhancing lives and paving the way for future dance generations. The honorees include Jean Taylor Beard, Yvonne James Brown, Ginger Burke, Beverly Fletcher, Elaine Gardner, Lynne Kurdziel-Formato and Linda Swiniuch.

Choreographers were selected to create dance works through personal interviews with these dancers, representing their artistry, forms and traditions. Choreographers include Shelly Hain, Elizabeth Waddell, Karen Georger, Tom Ralabate, Tressa Crehan and guest choreographers Channon Judson and Michael Walline.

All honorees will be given a special award from UB on Oct. 13. The award will be given posthumously to honoree Ginger Burke. Marilyn Ciancio, host of Adelphia's Artscope, will emcee the evening's award presentation.

Zodiaque Dance Company was established 28 years ago by Linda Swiniuch and is directed by Tom Ralabate. The company is comprised of students in the UB Department of Theatre and Dance.

Tickets for Zodiaque Dance Company are $12 for the general public and $5 for seniors and students. Tickets are available at the Center for the Arts Box Office from noon to 6 p.m.Tuesday through Friday and at all TicketMaster locations including Kaufmann's and Movies Plus.
