BUFFALO, N.Y. -- The University at Buffalo Department of Art is extending its reach to high school students and the general public with a slate of summer programs and workshops for the artistically curious and the artistically inclined.

UB's Summer Art Enrichment program for high school students -- which will begin July 16 and continue through Aug. 4 -- will draw on young adults with a serious interest in preparing portfolios for admission to college, as well as those seeking to broaden their skills in two- and three-dimensional studio areas.

The Monday-through-Friday program, which will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., will include three hours of drawing and painting in the morning, with afternoon sessions in sculpture, printmaking or photography. The program also will offer occasional evening events, such as trips to galleries, artists' studios and the like, and will culminate with a group show Aug. 4.

Scholarships for the program are available. Applications must be submitted no later than May 25.

Participants also may be eligible for early portfolio review, with the possibility of early acceptance into the UB Department of Art.

The deadline for general registration is May 25. The program cost is $675, which includes tuition of $575 and a $100 lab fee if registered before May 25. The cost of the program will increase to $725 after the May 25 deadline.

In addition to the summer enrichment program, the university will offer a slate of workshops catering to artists -- amateur and professional -- as well as educators, students and imagemakers.
