BUFFALO, N.Y. -- UB's National Public Radio station, WBFO 88.7 FM, is adding Public Radio International's award-winning "Marketplace" to its schedule beginning Aug. 7 and the one-hour NPR news quiz show, "Wait Wait...Don't Tell Me!" to its lineup beginning Aug. 6.

And in response to listeners' requests, WBFO will add a one-hour version of the popular "Whad'Ya Know" comedy/quiz show - which airs on Saturdays -- to its Sunday schedule beginning Aug. 6.

"Marketplace," with host David Brancaccio, will air from 6:30-7 p.m. Monday through Friday. A half-hour daily magazine program offering a fresh, down-to-earth, and fun perspective on business, finance and the global economy, it is billed as "the business program for non-business listeners."

The show features commentators ranging from top-level politicians to blue-collar workers who offer unique observations on specific topics. Frequent contributors include former Secretary of Labor Robert Reich, economist Paul Krugman, corporate communications expert Merrie Spaeth, and Robert Woodson, founder and President of the National Center for Neighborhood Enterprise. The show also features perspectives on youth and education by eighth-grader Alia Stavrand Woolf, commentary on parenthood in a consumer-driven society by mother and former television producer Debra Monroe, and advice for traveling the best for less by the Savvy Traveler Rudy Maxa.

"Wait Wait...Don't Tell Me!" hosted by Peter Sagal, will air on WBFO on Sundays from 10-11 a.m. Sagal guides a rotating panel of writers, journalists and NPR personalities, along with listeners, through a series of games that test their knowledge of the week's news, as well as their wit. NPR News' Carl Kasell serves as judge and scorekeeper.

This humorous and informative show features games that include: "Who's Carl This Time," in which contestants guess who Carl Kasell is impersonating while he quotes the week's news; "Listener Limerick Challenge," where listeners try to fill in the last line of a news-based limerick; "Not My Job," in which NPR hosts and reporters answer questions on topics outside their areas of expertise, and "Lightening True and False," the final speed round.

The "Not My Job" segment offers public radio's most coveted prize to listeners who provide two or more correct answers: Carl Kassell's voice saying the outgoing message on the listener's home answering machine.

The additional hour of "Whad'Ya Know" comedy/quiz show hosted by quizmaster Michael Feldman is being added in response to listener enthusiasm at 11 a.m. on Sundays, following "Wait Wait... Don't Tell Me!" The two-hour "Whad'Ya Know" program will continue to air on Saturdays from 8-10 p.m.

WBFO reaches nearly 100,000 listeners weekly in Western New York and southern Ontario with its 50,000-watt signal. WBFO also serves the Southern Tier with repeater station WOLN 91.3 FM in Olean and repeater station WUBJ 88.1 FM in Jamestown.
