BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Lectures, workshops and exhibits on the latest in diagnosis and treatment of dental conditions and topics ranging from periodontal disease to dental implants to infection control will highlight the 22nd Greater Niagara Frontier Dental Meeting.
The event, sponsored by the University at Buffalo Dental Alumni Association, will be held from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Sept. 30 and Oct. 1 in the Buffalo Convention Center.
Nearly 2,500 dentists, dental researchers, students, educators and dental auxiliaries from Western New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Southern Ontario are expected to attend.
There will be 100 exhibits featuring the latest dental products, services and materials. Exhibitor preview night, open to dues-paid members of the association, will be held from 5:30-8 p.m. on Sept. 29.
Among the highlights of the program will be a course, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Sept. 30, presented by Linda L. Miles of Miles & Associates, based in Virginia Beach, Va. Miles, who has dedicated her career to the improvement of dental practices, will discuss the future of dentistry, causes and solutions for professional burnout, meeting dental patients' expectations and staff development and utilization.
Presenting a program on "Contemporary Periodontics: Anti-Infective Therapy, Regenerative Therapy and Risk-Factor Management," from 8:45 a.m. to noon on Oct. 1 will be internationally known researcher Robert J. Genco, D.D.S., Ph.D., SUNY Distinguished Professor and chair of the UB Department of Oral Biology.
Joseph A. Blaes, D.D.S., editor of Dental Economics, will present a course, "Time is Money! Techniques, Equipment and Materials to Streamline Your Practice," from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Oct. 1. Blaes has created a unique, innovative, insurance-free, fee-for-service general practice that emphasizes prevention, cosmetics, reconstruction and implant dentistry.
The program on Sept. 30 will include all-day sessions on particle abrasion and adhesive dentistry by Tarrytown dentist and 1959 UB dental graduate Gerald B. Greitzer, D.D.S., and national consultant Patricia Sterner, a practicing dental hygienist, who will discuss "Today's Dental Hygiene Practice…It's Not What It Used to Be."
Also speaking on Sept. 30 will be San Diego-based dentist and 1980 UB dental graduate Harold J. Gulbransen, D.D.S., who will discuss effective treatment planning and execution using dental implants, and Steven A. Guttenberg, D.D.S., a 1969 UB dental graduate practicing in Washington, D.C., who will discuss implant restorative, cosmetic and functional outcomes.
On Oct. 1, Terrence J. Thines, D.D.S., a 1975 UB dental graduate and associate professor in the UB Department of Oral Diagnostic Sciences, will discuss office-based infection control
A dinner dance will be held at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 1 in the Statler Golden Ballroom.
