BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Faculty and students in the University at Buffalo School of Nursing will bring the Wellness on Wheels van to the new King Urban Life Center at 938 Genesee St. on April 16 for a health screening and education day. The program will last from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The nursing faculty and students will offer free lead screening for children, as well provide blood-pressure, hearing, vision, blood-sugar, and cholesterol testing for adults. Information sessions will address women's health issues, and participants also will have the opportunity to discuss health concerns privately with a UB faculty nurse.

Wellness on Wheels, a 37-foot mobile health clinic, is sponsored by the Catholic Health System and the Independent Health Foundation.

The King Urban Life Center is a private-non-profit corporation formed in 1988 to save the former St. Mary of Sorrows Church, which was slated for demolition. The center opened in 1998, and now houses several community programs, as well as a public school for children in pre-kindergarten through second grade.
