School of Management Names Case Competition Winners

BUFFALO, N.Y. -- The problem-solving and presentation skills of MBA students from the School of Management were tested recently during the school's Fourth Annual Case Competition.

Sponsored by Columbus McKinnon and Ernst & Young, the contest asked teams of students to serve as consultants responsible for devising corporate strategy for Sime Darby Berhard, a Malaysian conglomerate considering purchase of the United Malaysian Banking Co. in 1995.

The $1,500 first-place prize was awarded to teammates Ian Johnston of Buffalo, Lisa Nowak of Cheektowaga, Colleen Dannels of Grand Island and Michael Graubner of Eisenach, Germany. The second-place prize of $500 was awarded to a team consisting of Robert Dumansky of Eden, Todd Genovese of Dunkirk, Fred Gullo of Amherst and Sharon Prise of East Aurora.

Serving as judges for the competition were Michael A. Murray, partner, Ernst & Young; Robert L. Montgomery, executive vice president, Columbus McKinnon, and Howard Foster, associate dean for academic programs in the School of Management.
