BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Michael E. Bernardino, M.D., vice president for health affairs at the University at Buffalo, will discuss "How an Academic Health Center Copes in a Chaotic Environment" during a "UB at Sunrise" breakfast program, at 7:30 a.m. on Oct. 13 in the Sheraton Inn, 2040 Walden Ave., Cheektowaga.
Bernardino, who became the chief officer overseeing the clinical and collaborative activities of UB's five health-sciences schools -- medicine and biomedical sciences, dental medicine, health related professions, nursing and pharmacy -- on April 1, will discuss how UB will adapt to the revolution in the delivery and financing of health care that is affecting Buffalo's crucial medical sector.
Prior to coming to UB, Bernardino served as professor of radiology in the Emory University School of Medicine and as director of managed care with the Emory University System of Health Care, Inc., where he oversaw sales, marketing, contracting, medical management and community relations for a health-care system with net revenues of more than $1 billion.
While at Emory, he also served as director of magnetic resonance imaging and director of abdominal radiology at Emory University Hospital and as a professor in The Winship Cancer Center.
A graduate of Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Bernardino earned his medical degree from Ohio State University and did his residency in diagnostic radiology at George Washington University Hospital in Washington, D.C. He also earned an MBA degree from Emory.
The cost of the "UB at Sunrise" lecture, which includes a full breakfast, is $10 for UB Alumni Association members and $12 for the general public.
