BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Alumni and friends of the University at Buffalo School of Law are invited to attend the school's 1998 New York Alumni Luncheon, to be held from noon to 2 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 30, in the Union League Club, 38 East 37th St., New York.

The luncheon is held each year in conjunction with the New York State Bar Association Annual Meeting.

"It's a great opportunity to visit with law school friends from across the state at one of New York's oldest and most elegant clubs," says law alumni President Samuel L. Shapiro, ('65).

Attendees will hear a presentation by Dean Barry B. Boyer and Vice Deans Alan S. Carrel and R. Nils Olsen, Jr. concerning the 1998 state budget request for $1.8 million for the law school made by the Law Alumni Association.

Also featured will be Charles Patrick Ewing, UB professor of law and adjunct professor of psychology, who will speak on "Workplace Violence: Psychological and Legal Issues."

A nationally recognized authority on forensic psychology and the law, Ewing often is sought as an expert on issues related to violent behavior by attorneys involved in the country's most publicized trials. He is called upon regularly by national broadcast and print media, including Time, The New York Times, The Washington Post, and "Good Morning America," for his insights and opinions.

Ewing is the author of five books and 60 other publications on subjects ranging from domestic violence and juvenile crime to capital punishment, ethics and the legal regulation of psychological and psychiatric practice. He is working on a book dealing with homicides that occur in the workplace.

Since joining the UB faculty in 1983, Ewing has taught criminal law, evidence and juvenile law in the law school, and courses on psychology, psychiatry and law in the Department of Psychology. He received his doctorate in child and family psychology from Cornell and his law degree, with honors, from Harvard Law School.

Anyone interested in attending the luncheon may call Ilene Fleischmann, assistant dean and executive director of the Law Alumni Association, at (716) 645-2107. Guests are welcome.
