BUFFALO, N.Y. -- The University at Buffalo Libraries have received the 1997 Joseph F. Schubert Moving Towards Excellence Award from the New York State Library for its "Digital Library Initiative."

The Schubert award, named for former state librarian Joseph F. Schubert, is given annually to individual libraries and library consortia and systems that have taken significant steps to improve the quality of library service to their users. Recipients are selected by the Regents Advisory Council on Libraries.

Regent James A. Dawson presented the award to Barbara von Wahlde, associate vice president for university libraries, and Stephen Roberts, associate director, at the annual conference of the New York Library Association, held recently in Syracuse.
