Ernest Witebsky Center For Immunology to Co-Sponsororgan Transplantation Symposium

BUFFALO, N.Y. -- State-of-the-art research on immunological factors important in human organ transplantation will be presented at the fifth Basic Sciences Symposium of the Transplantation Society, to be held Sept. 6-11 at the Chautauqua Institution.

Clinicians, researchers and scientists from around the world are expected to attend the program, which will feature more than 200 oral and poster presentations involving transplant research.

The international event is co-sponsored by the Ernest Witebsky Center for Immunology at the University at Buffalo.

The symposium will be dedicated in honor of Felix Milgrom, M.D., SUNY Distinguished Professor in the UB Department of Microbiology, at a tribute beginning at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 6, in the Athenaeum Hotel.

Milgrom is credited with pioneering research in basic and medical immunology in the fields of transplantation and autoimmunity.

Speakers at the tribute will include 1980 Nobel Prize winner Jean Dausset; Jean Borel of Switzerland; Noel Rose, former director of the Witebsky Center who is now at The Johns Hopkins University, and Robert S. Schwartz of Tufts University.
