BUFFALO, N.Y. -- If life gives you "lemons," make lemonade! Or bake lemon pie!
More than 1,100 participants from all walks of life and two dozen nations will learn how to constructively deal with life's "lemons" at the 43rd annual Creative Problem Solving Institute (CPSI), to be held June 22-27 on the University at Buffalo North (Amherst) Campus.
Billed as "the world's largest creativity gathering on the planet," the more than 200 workshops to be offered by the institute will provide preteens through adults with techniques they need to face today's challenges and problems.
CPSI is sponsored by the Creative Education Foundation (CEF), headquartered in Western New York.
Program director William J. Shephard emphasizes that virtually anyone can learn to think creatively, pointing out that often the "old" solutions aren't the answer to today's challenges of downsizing time, money and resources at home, in government and in the workplace.
"CPSI lectures, workshops and informal interaction among participants encourage and inspire attendees and presenters to look at the Œlemons' from different perspectives and angles, and to arrive at creative and feasible solutions," he says.
Marilyn Ferguson, an author, publisher and editor known for her book, "The Aquarian Conspiracy," will deliver the conference's keynote speech at 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, June 22, in the Center for the Arts. Ferguson's presentation will focus on the fact that while people of the "information age" are on the brink of a life revolution, choices lie within the power of human imagination.
Two all-day programs will precede the CPSI conference on Saturday, June 21. Lindsay Collier, author of "The Whack-a-Mole-Theory" and "Organizational Mental Floss," will discuss "21st Century Thinking Skills for Organizations." Hedria Porrath Lunken, director of communication programs for The Performance Group, will discuss "Personal Change for the New Millennium."
Both workshops will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Student Union.
