UB Geology Students Receive Awards

BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Seven students in the University at Buffalo's Department of Geology were honored recently in a departmental ceremony.

Nancy Sullivan of Buffalo was awarded the Gilbert Jaffe Memorial Award, given to a graduating student who excels in the study of marine or environmental science. The award carries a $350 stipend.

Julie Strain of West Seneca received the undergraduate Pegrum Award, established to honor an outstanding senior in the Department of Geology. The award carries a $500 stipend.

Julie Gloss of Fredonia and David Hoyal of East Aurora were awarded the graduate Pegrum Awards, for teaching and research, respectively. They each received a $500 stipend.

Three students received the Dorothea C. Duttweiler Field Camp Award to assist female students attending geology summer field camps. Elowyn Yager of Tonawanda, received $500, and Jennifer Jennings of Fairport and Valerie Podet of Buffalo each received $250.
