BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Sara A. Brallier of Orchard Park, a candidate for a master's degree in sociology, is the winner of the 1997 Rose Weinstein Memorial Award, sponsored by the Emeritus Center at the University at Buffalo.
The Weinstein Award, which carries a $200 prize, was created in honor of the late Rose Weinstein, a UB faculty member and one of the founders of the Emeritus Center. The award is given for studies on aging.
Brallier based her entry on her master's thesis, "An Analysis of the Relationship Between Fertility and the Living Arrangements of Elderly Women, 1900-1990." In her entry, Brallier noted that older women today are much more likely to live alone than at the turn of the century, with particularly significant changes in patterns of such behavior occurring in the World War II era.
The winning entry was chosen by the Emeritus Center's Awards Committee.
