BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Sixteen graduates of the University at Buffalo School of Nursing received awards at commencement ceremonies held recently at the university.

€ Mercelle Jackson of Rochester (graduate program) and Julie Anne Baker of Williamsville (baccalaureate program) -- The Shirley D. DeVoe Communication Award for demonstrating superior skill in communicating with patients and clients

€ Khai T. Phu of Woodside (baccalaureate program) -- The S. Mouchly Small Award for demonstrating superior knowledge and skill in psychiatric mental-health nursing

€ Michael J. Ostolski of Lockport (graduate program) and Kaitlin Hamilton of Saratoga Springs (baccalaureate program) -- The Sigma Theta Tau, Gamma Kappa Chapter Award for superior scholarship, leadership and achievement in nursing

€ Julie Elizabeth Craig of Pearl River (baccalaureate program) -- The Ruth T. McGrorey Award for Excellence in Nursing for demonstrating outstanding knowledge of nursing theory and excellence in nursing practice

€ Keturah Renne Hurt of Rochester, Nateshia Merchant of New York City, Jill Ann Perlette of Hamburg, and Laura J. Raby of North Tonawanda (baccalaureate program) -- The Anne Walker Sengbusch Award for Leadership in School and Community Activities in recognition of notable service and leadership to the school of nursing

€ Cynthia L. Engl of Tonawanda (baccalaureate program) -- The New York State Nurses Association District I Award for professionalism in nursing with both clients and colleagues

€ Gerald Frisicaro of Cherry Creek (baccalaureate program) and Wannapa Suttiamnuaykul of Bangkok, Thailand (graduate program) -- The Coletta A. Klug Fund Award, which provides monetary support for educational, clinical or research activities in psychiatric mental-health nursing

€ Jane Poss of East Amherst (graduate program) -- the Nova G. Petsan Scholarship Fund, an award based on a high level of scholarship and financial need

€ Sandra Ben of Lockport (baccalaureate program) -- The Millard Fillmore Scholarship, awarded to a registered nurse who graduated from the Millard Fillmore Hospital School of Nursing
