I consider mentoring one of the most important responsibilities I have as a faculty member and research scientist. In addition, when a student asks me to be their mentor I consider this one of the greatest honors in the field. Over the past 25 years I have had the great pleasure of mentoring many outstanding students at all academic levels, and in each case, my life has been enriched by these interactions. In fact, my long history of success in this field can be directly attributed to the significant contributions of my former and current mentees. I still maintain contact with most of my former mentees and I have enjoyed watching them succeed in their chosen fields. To me, mentoring does not end when your student leaves the institution and I am committed to making myself available to all my former trainees for as long as they need me.
