The Poetry Collection of the University Libraries is welcoming the campus community to explore the poetry of Robert Frost during the Third Victor E. Reichert Robert Frost Event.

The annual lecture, supported by the Jonathan F. Reichert Fund, will take place from 6-8 p.m. April 13, in 420 Capen Hall on the North Campus.

The free event will begin with a reception at 6 p.m., followed by a lecture at 6:30 p.m. by Donald Sheehy, professor of English at Edinboro University of Pennsylvania and co-editor of “The Letters of Robert Frost.”

Guests are encouraged to register by Friday, April 8, at lpo-poetry@buffalo.edu or 716-645-2917.

During his lecture, “Novel Inflections: North of Boston Revisited,” Sheehy will discuss some of the unanswered questions that continue to persist more than a hundred years after the publication of Frost’s second book of poetry.

“Harvard University Press’ multivolume ‘The Letters of Robert Frost’ project is a significant new resource for literary scholars, and we are fortunate to have its co-editor Donald Sheehy here for this year’s Reichert Frost event,” says James Maynard, associate curator of The Poetry Collection.

Frost is one of the most popular and respected American poets of the 20th century. He received four Pulitzer Prizes for Poetry and was awarded the Congressional Gold Medal in 1960. He is highly regarded for his realistic depictions of rural life and examination of complex social and philosophical themes.

The Victor E. Reichert Robert Frost Collection held in the UB Libraries was donated in 2013 by Jonathan Reichert, Victor E. Reichert’s son and UB professor emeritus of physics.

It includes letters, photographs, audio recordings and other documents that chronicle the 24-year friendship between Frost and the late Victor E. Reichert, a Cincinnati rabbi.

Founded in 1937, the UB Poetry Collection contains one of the world’s foremost collections of James Joyce materials, as well as significant collections on Dylan Thomas, William Carlos Williams, Robert Duncan and other writers and poets.
