BUFFALO, N.Y. – inSocialWorkSM – formerly known as Living Proof – the University at Buffalo’s School of Social Work podcast series, has won a national award in the “Best Website” category of the National Association of Social Work (NASW) Media Awards.

“This marks the fifth year of our podcast series, and we are truly honored to win this prestigious award from NASW,” says Tony Guzman, director of online programs at the UB School of Social Work and the leader of the podcast series committee.

“inSocialWorkSM strives to provide interviews on both research and practice to the social work community. While social work can be about human interactions, interventions and rights, it is important to leverage technology, such as our podcast, to dispense cutting-edge information in a free format.”

Guzman gave special recognition to the hard work and leadership of Professor Emeritus Howard Doueck, who launched the podcast series for the School of Social Work and to Dean Nancy Smyth.

“Dean Smyth’s vision and determination pushed this podcast forward to become what it is today,” says Guzman.

inSocialWorkSM is a biweekly podcast series featuring conversations with prominent social work professionals, interviews with cutting-edge researchers, and information on emerging trends and best practices in the field of social work. Listeners can access the podcasts at http://www.inSocialWork.org/.

The series website has more than 115 episodes in its archive. The podcast episodes have been downloaded over 425,000 times, from more than 50 countries, according to Guzman. Topics include: Trauma, Human Rights, Veteran Issues, Evidenced-based Practices, Public Policy, among many others. The inSocialWorkSM podcast series topics can be used at agencies, practices and classrooms alike.

The School of Social Work offers an individualized master’s of social work degree (MSW) and a PhD in social welfare with capability to design the focus of each interdisciplinary course of study choosing from the 10 other UB professional schools and academic departments. UB social work is ranked in the top 12 percent of accredited programs.

The MSW program is unique in the world in that it recognizes the significant role that psychological trauma and human rights violations play in a range of social issues and, as a result, has a curriculum that integrates a trauma-informed, human rights perspective throughout the degree.
