BUFFALO, N.Y. – Imagine being 80 years old and getting the chance to relive your high school senior prom – only this time being selected king or queen.

For the first time, the University at Buffalo student chapter of the American Society of Consultant Pharmacists (ASCP) will hold its prom in the dining room/ballroom of Bassett Park Manor, an assisted living facility located on 111 St. Gregory Ct, Williamsville, with 50 residents in attendance and taking part.

The evening’s festivities will take place on April 26 from 6 - 8 p.m.

There will be refreshments including appetizers and champagne, socializing and dancing and a DJ playing mostly jazz recordings. The evening will culminate with the selection of a prom king and queen for both the students and the senior residents.

Wesley Kufel, UB intern at Omnicare Pharmacy of Western New York and chapter president-elect, says that ACSP works mostly in the field of geriatrics and long-term care facilities.  The UB student chapter received an ASPC grant of $870 to host the event at Bassett Park.

“This is the first time such an event has happened at our pharmacy school. We got the idea from the ASCP national conference in National Harbor, Maryland, where other student chapters have hosted such an event,” said Kufel. “We have also fundraised for this by selling entertainment books and anti-microbial guides for pharmacy students.”

Wesley Kufel  will be available onsite and via email at wesleyku@buffalo.edu or by phone at 315-657-6208.
