BUFFALO, N.Y. -- The University at Buffalo will share information about its plans to demolish the Buffalo Materials Research Center, its former nuclear research reactor, at a session on Thursday, Dec. 6, at 6:30 p.m. in Allen Hall on UB's South Campus.

The facility has not been in operation since 1994. Its radioactive fuel has been completely removed. UB has received permission from federal and state authorities to take down the building that housed the reactor and return the site to a green field.

David Vasbinder, UB's associate director of environment, health and safety services, will explain the project and answer questions from the public. Other university staff members and representatives from the Nuclear Regulatory Commission will also be on hand to answer any questions.

UB encourages community members, faculty, staff, students and all other interested persons to attend. Reservations are not required, and no permit is needed to park in university lots after 3 p.m.
