BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Internationally renowned speakers from several fields in mental health will be featured at the Eighth Comprehensive Review of Psychiatry to be held Sept. 6-7, at The Conference and Event Center, Niagara Falls. Sponsors are the Department of Psychiatry in the University at Buffalo School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences and the Western New York Psychiatric Society.
Session topics will range from "Why School Anti-Bullying Programs Do not Work" by Stuart Twemlow, MD, professor of psychiatry at Baylor College of Medicine, to "Treatment of Prescription Opioid Dependence" by Roger Weiss, MD, professor of psychiatry at Harvard Medical School.
Other topics include "Gambling, Sex and Stealing" by Jon Grant, MD, JD, professor of psychiatry at the University of Minnesota, and "Psycho-cardiology: Treating Mood Disorders while Minimizing Cardiovascular and Metabolic Risks" by Norman Sussman, MD, professor of psychiatry at New York University. Steven Dubovsky, MD, chair of the UB Department of Psychiatry, will discuss the use of lab tests in the diagnosis and treatment of psychiatric disorders.
Dubovsky is directing the program, along with Josie Olympia, MD, associate professor of psychiatry at UB.
Attendees will complete workshops and break into small groups to reflect on lectures and discuss issues within their fields; presentations and exhibited data will be broken down into useful information for the practicing clinician.
In addition to clinicians, the conference aims to attract psychologists, nurses, pharmacists, social workers and other mental health care professionals.
