BUFFALO, N.Y. -- The Department of Theatre and Dance at the University at Buffalo will present Zodiaque Ensemble, In Concert! on April 20-21 at 7:30 p.m. and April 21-22 at 2 p.m. in the Black Box Theatre, Center for the Arts, UB North Campus.

Zodiaque Dance Ensemble, directed by Assistant Professor Anne Burnidge, is one of UB's resident student dance companies and is comprised of 26 dance majors ranging from freshman to seniors. The concert showcases eight diverse dance pieces with choreography by guest artist Jenny Showalter; UB dance faculty Shelley Hain; Joyce Lichtenberger and Anne Burnidge; and invited, advanced-level UB choreography students Brittany Bennett, Julie LaMancuso and Marlee Sroka.

The concert embodies a spectrum of current dance styles, ranging from postmodern partnering to contemporary jazz. Junior BFA student Marlee Sroka, in her work Bop, Boink, Bump, creates a quixotic, playground-like world where dancers hide behind, roll on and dance with large exercise balls. Whack/Traversing by Rochester dance artist Jenny Showalter gently unfolds to reveal an athletic tapestry of line, symmetry and momentum. Other works take inspiration from sources that include the Blues and Motown music, causality and Dante's Divine Comedy.

Tickets for Zodiaque Ensemble, In Concert! are $20 general admission and $10 for students and seniors. Tickets are available at the Center for the Arts Box Office (Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.) and all Ticketmaster locations, including ticketmaster.com.
