BUFFALO, N.Y. -- The University at Buffalo's Black Law Student Association will welcome a panel of local lawmakers to its annual Black Lawmakers' Day dinner at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 17, in 106 O'Brian Hall on UB's North Campus.

The panel will include New York State Assemblywoman Crystal D. Peoples-Stokes, Erie County Legislature Chair Barbara Miller-Williams, Buffalo City Councilman Demone Smith and former New York State Sen. Antoine Thompson. All will contribute to the discussion on the legislative process, as well as running for and holding public office.

The panel will provide a unique perspective for future attorneys from a practical view. The participants are instrumental in the making and passing of the laws that students will soon be practicing. The panel is also intended to help the lawyers who may choose to get involved in politics and eventually run for public office.

This event is part of BLSA's objective to reach out into the local community. Those organizing the program also hope to open up a line of communication between the UB Law School students and the panelists.

The moderator of this event will be UB Law School student Tamara Wright (3L). A question and answer session will follow after each panelist's presentation.
