BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Effective strategies for preventing and intervening in bullying abuse will be the topic of a public presentation on Wednesday, Nov. 9, by Amanda B. Nickerson, director of the University at Buffalo's Jean M. Alberti Center for the Prevention of Bullying Abuse and School Violence.
Nickerson will deliver a public lecture and answer audience questions from 6:30-7:30 p.m. on Nov. 9 in room 250 of Baird Hall on UB's North Campus. (Baird Hall is building No. 8 in the peach-colored section of this map: http://www.buffalo.edu/buildings/maps/NorthCampus.pdf).
Nickerson's talk will take place just before the Distinguished Speakers Series lecture at 8 p.m. by gay rights activist and author Judy Shepard, whose son, Matthew, was killed in a vicious murder precipitated by hatred of gays.
During Nickerson's presentation, attendees will learn more about how to recognize the signs of bullying and what to do to make a difference.
Nickerson will define the problem of bullying and share effective strategies for prevention and intervention. She will highlight ongoing research that aims to further our understanding of these complex and compelling issues.
