It's back to school for students this weekend at the University at Buffalo.

Students will be welcomed back to the University at Buffalo campuses this weekend with a variety of activities, including fairs, food, music and movies designed to acquaint them with life at UB and to get the academic year off to an enthusiastic start.

Friday, Aug. 26

-- 3:30 p.m., Annual interlocking UB photo (Student Union Field). More than 1,300 students will gather on the Student Union Field by The Commons to form the seventh annual Human UB logo.

-- 3:30 p.m., Students "Meet and Mingle" with UB President Satish K. Tripathi (Slee/Clemens courtyard, North Campus).

-- 4:30 p.m., New Student Picnic (Baird Point, North Campus). UB faculty and staff welcome new students and their families with a chicken BBQ.

-- 6 p.m., Aerial Angels (Baird Point). Edge-of-your-seat acrobatics, fire-eating and trapeze flying by the amazing Aerial Angels.

Saturday, Aug. 27

-- 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., UB in the Community! (Students will meet outside the Student Union at 10 a.m.). Students take the opportunity to make a difference in their new community by volunteering with local organizations that include Project Naomi, Habitat for Humanity, Homespace, Westside Ministries and St. Catherine Laboure Health Care Center.

-- 9:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m., Welcome Back Bash (Student Union). Music, food, dancing and a foam pit. The UB campus springs to life!

Sunday, Aug. 28

-- 1 p.m., Hear the Thunder! (Kunz Field, North Campus). UB's marching band, Thunder of the East, performing with other local bands. Every big-time university needs a big-time marching band!

-- 3 p.m., "We are UB" community photo (Health Sciences Library, South Campus). Group picture unites the campus and neighboring community.

-- 9:30 p.m., Movie Night (Student Union field and Student Union Theatre).

-- 10:30 p.m., Late Night Pancake Breakfast (Student Union Lobby). Students fuel-up for the first day of classes.

Monday, Aug. 29

-- First day of classes! UB's 28,000 students start hitting the books.

-- Noon to 2 p.m., 100-Foot Banana Split (Student Union lobby). An annual tradition to sweeten the first day of the new semester and get students mingling.
