School of Management Honors Interns and Supervisors

BUFFALO, N.Y. -- The Frank L. Ciminelli Family Career Resource Center and the Credit-Bearing Internship Program in the University at Buffalo School of Management honored five professionals, 11 students and four companies on April 8 at a reception in the South Lake Community Building on UB's North Campus.

The Frank L. Ciminelli Family Career Resource Center Alumnus of the Year award was given to Joe Kuchera, vice president, human resources, at Unifrax Corp., as the alumnus having the greatest positive impact on MBA students and student clubs in the School of Management. Marcia C. Carrano, human resources/payroll supervisor at Unifrax, accepted the award on behalf of Kuchera.

The Frank L. Ciminelli Family Career Resource Center Recruiter of the Year award went to Mark Bruno, Lake Erie market sourcing leader at PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP, for making a significant impact in recruiting School of Management students. Keith Stolzenburg, partner at PricewaterhouseCoopers, accepted the award on behalf of Bruno.

IBM received the Frank L. Ciminelli Family Career Resource Center Recruiting Organization of the Year award. Accepting the award for IBM was Erin O'Brien, client solutions executive.

The Credit-Bearing Internship Program (CBIP) presented Student Interns of the Year awards to three students. The recipients are Jennifer Gannon, Curbell; Andrew Hunter, Army Corps of Engineers; and Dana Szczepaniak, SIMA. Honorable mentions were given to Nikhil Honrao and Matthew Sadlouskos, First Niagara Financial Group.

The CBIP also presented three Intern Supervisor of the Year awards to honor supervisors for their contributions to the professional development of the UB interns who worked for them. The recipients are Jack Reich, registered representative, AXA Advisors LLC; Jill Douglas, human resources generalist, New Era Cap; and Neil Mussett, senior analyst, Citi.

Outstanding Internship Organization was awarded to First Investors Corporation for their summer financial services internships as well as for their integrity, involvement and commitment to positive internship experiences. Jim Henry, division manager, president and CEO, accepted the award.

GEICO was honored as Outstanding New Internship Partner for its professional internship program. Intern supervisors Joseph Frank, regional management trainer, and Oliver Scott, customer service supervisor, accepted the award.

Not-for-Profit Internship Site of the Year was awarded to the UB Office of Science, Technology Transfer and Economic Outreach (STOR). Accepting the award was Jeffrey Dunbar, director of the intellectual property division. Internships were offered to students in business and in their Directed Energy program.

Interns nominated supervisors for recognition. Finalists were chosen by Carrie Gardner, CBIP administrative director, and Mary Dahl, program assistant, and were endorsed by Martha Salzman, faculty director of the Credit Bearing Internship Program.

The CBIP also announced the winners of the School of Management Alumni Association (SOMAA) Internship Scholarships. The recipients are Sayaka Ishida, Allison Kiersz, Melinda Long, Christopher Maugans, Janani Natarajan and Jerome Singletary. Each winner will receive a $500 tuition scholarship for his or her summer 2011 credit-bearing internship. The students were selected by members of the SOMAA board based on essays they submitted.
