Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis to Perform March 20

BUFFALO, N.Y. -- The Center for the Arts at the University at Buffalo will present the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis on March 20 at 8 p.m. in the Mainstage Theatre, Center for the Arts, UB North Campus.

The Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra is celebrating its latest CD release, Portrait in Seven Shades, with a 19-city U.S. tour. The world-renowned big band will perform selections from the CD, as well as tunes by Count Basie, Mary Lou Williams and others.

Portrait in Seven Shades is the band's first recording of original music in nearly four years. The suite, composed by jazz muscian Ted Nash, is released by Jazz at Lincoln Center and is the first title under a distribution agreement with The Orchard. Nash's suite consists of seven movements, each inspired by a master of modern art: Chagall, Dali, Matisse, Monet, Picasso, Pollack and Van Gogh.

The Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis is composed of 15 of the finest jazz soloists and ensemble players and is the resident orchestra at Jazz at Lincoln Center in New York City. Under music director Wynton Marsalis, the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra tours worldwide, performing a vast and unique repertoire: from rare historic compositions to modern Jazz at Lincoln Center-commissioned works, including compositions and arrangements by the jazz masters and members of the band.
