BUFFALO, N.Y. -- The Center for the Arts at the University at Buffalo will welcome Rhythm of Rajasthan on Sept. 27 at 7:30 p.m. in the Mainstage Theatre in the Center for the Arts on the UB North (Amherst) Campus.
From the windswept Great Thar Desert in Rajasthan, the largest state of the Republic of India, comes Rhythm of Rajasthan with its mesmerizing music and dance. The musicians, from the Langa and Manghaniyar communities, perform a program of vibrant and joyous folk music, featuring driving percussion, ecstatic Sufi songs, and hypnotic sarangi (bowed lute) and algoza (double flute). They will be joined by the famed dancer Sua Devi.
The performance will be sponsored by the UB Asian Studies Program, Triveni, and the Center for the Arts. The program is also made possible in part by the Arts Council in Buffalo & Erie County with public funds from the New York State Council on the Arts Decentralization Program.
Tickets for Rhythm of Rajasthan are $15 general admission and $10 for students.
