BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Former Sha-Na-Na frontman Bowzer will join Buffalo American Idol celebrity John Stevens on stage for "Bowzer's Rock 'N' Roll Party" at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 4 in the University at Buffalo's Mainstage theater.

The event, to be held in the Center for the Arts on UB's North (Amherst) Campus, will raise money for the 48th Annual Variety Kids Telethon and the Center for the Arts' Arts in Healthcare program at Women and Children's Hospital of Buffalo.

Bowzer will sing with his new band, the Stingrays. Currently, they are performing at venues around the world, including amusement parks and cruise ships.

Stevens, originally from East Amherst, is the event's opening act. Stevens entered Season 3 of American Idol when he was 16 years old and became the youngest contestant ever to make the finals. Shortly after, he produced his first record, "Red," which ranked in the top 10 in first-week sales on the Billboard jazz charts. He is now a student at the Berklee College of Music in Boston, Mass.

"We're excited because it's our first event with the Center for the Arts at UB," says Richard Goldstein, executive director of Variety. "It should be a fun night for all ages."

Tickets are $20 for the concert, and $30 for the concert plus a meet-and-greet with both artists, including dinner (6-7 p.m., limited to 100 people) in the UB Center for the Arts Black Box Theatre.

Tickets are available at the Center for the Arts Box Office from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays, or at ticketmaster.com. For more information, call Rebeka Sorge in University Communications at (716) 645-4600, or the box office at 645-2787. Or email info@ubcfa.org.
