Western New York Career Resource Expo Offers Hope, Opportunities for Job-Seekers

BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Anyone looking for a good job or better employment in Western New York will find job-searching tips, networking opportunities and a wide array of practical, career-related guidance at the first Western New York Career Resource Expo, to be held Aug. 12 from 1-5 p.m., at Erie Community College City Campus, 121 Ellicott St., Buffalo.

Sponsored by the Western New York Association of College Career Centers, the Buffalo Niagara Human Resources Association and the Buffalo Niagara Partnership, the Western New York Career Resource Expo is free and open to the public. Experts from local companies, organizations and schools will be on hand to provide job-search assistance, educational and training opportunities, information regarding credit counseling, entrepreneurial opportunities and mental health support.

"If you have a friend, family member or neighbor seeking employment in Western New York, tell them about this event," says Judith C. Applebaum, interim director of Career Services at the University at Buffalo, who is helping coordinate the event. "It is a wonderful opportunity to hear directly from the experts how to become a better job seeker and to meet with local organizations and agencies that can help." More than 70 workshops will be conducted by human resource and career counseling experts on a variety of job search topics, such as resume writing, interviewing, completing online job applications, networking, tapping the hidden job market and future employment opportunities in Western New York. Experts will be available to review resumes and provide resume advice on the spot. There will also be an opportunity to meet informally with area employers during a networking session.

The Western New York Career Resource Expo will pay special attention to the unique local needs and opportunities in the present economic downturn. All those participating in the Western New York Career Resource Expo are volunteers. Local companies, organizations and colleges have offered to provide their time and services to support local job seekers during these challenging economic times.
